FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of underwater acoustics, namely to passive sound-and-locator stations (SLS), designed to detect submarines (SM) and surface ships (SS) by their noise emission. Technical result is achieved in that the decision on the class of the target and the distance to it are made using measured values of the signal level and the magnitude (speed) of the bearing change (BCM) of the target detected at the output of the fan of the directivity characteristics of the receiving sonar antenna.
EFFECT: improving the accuracy of classification and accuracy of determining the distance to a noisy target.
