FIELD: hydro acoustics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hydro acoustics, namely to methods and devices for detecting marine targets by their noise emission, and more specifically to methods of determining coordinates of targets using interference maxima in autocorrelation function of target noise. Technical result is achieved by determining maximally compact area of possible location of target in space "distance-depth", in which the position of the signal source is searched for by distance and depth, for which the interference maxima in ACF of the broadband target noise calculated by the beam program, best match the interference peaks in the ACF measured at the output of the antenna.

EFFECT: high accuracy of determining coordinates of a noisy target.
