FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, specifically to ophthalmology. To determine the therapeutic approach to the initial stage of open-angle glaucoma (POAG) with underlying drug-induced antihypertensive therapy for at least 3–6 weeks, the IOP level is determined. Weighted average IOP is calculated for the period under study by formula: , where IOPAvW is weighted average IOP, mm Hg, IOP1 = average IOP level of initial mode, mm Hg, IOPn – average IOP level using the following initial antihypertensive regimen, mm Hg, T1 – duration of initial mode use, months/years, Tn – duration of use following initial hypotensive mode, T – duration of glaucoma, months/years. If IOPAvW is 20 mm Hg or less, the mode of drug-induced antihypertensive therapy is not changed. If IOPAvW is 21–23 mm Hg, the correction of the drug-induced antihypertensive therapy is performed, or laser surgical treatment is performed additionally. If IOPAvW value is more than 23 mm Hg. surgical treatment is performed.
EFFECT: method provides prolonged preservation of visual functions and increased duration of transition of the initial stage of glaucoma into the advanced stage due to higher accuracy of determining therapeutic approach to the initial stage of primary open-angle glaucoma.
