FIELD: analytical chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry and can be used to determine the content of the sulfate ion in agricultural soils. For this purpose, a water extract is obtained from the soil, an aliquot is taken, transferred to another container, and the exact amount of a solution of a known concentration of barium chloride is added to it. Liquid fraction is separated from the precipitate of barium sulfate by centrifugation, filtration or settling. Decrease in the concentration of barium in the analyzed sample associated with an equivalent amount of barium in the form of insoluble precipitate, is determined with flame photometric method in the spectral range of 780–800 nm. Amount of sulfate ion is calculated from the difference between the initial amount of barium added and its residue in the analyzed solution. For implementing the method, use a device comprising a flame photometric unit with an air-gas system and gas flow control valves, a propane burner, spectrophotometer and microprocessor with software for processing measurement results.
EFFECT: group of inventions provides an accurate determination of the sulfur content in the form of sulfate ion in soil samples.
