SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a mattress having adjustable firmness, and is aimed at improving the comfortable accommodation of various users. Mattress contains an upper mattress, a lower mattress and a support layer. Lower mattress is arranged under the upper mattress. Support layer is arranged between the upper mattress and the lower mattress and is intended to partially support the upper mattress. Lower mattress has a variable length in the length direction and/or in the width direction of the mattress, so that at least one side of the lower mattress is movable in the length direction and/or in the width direction of the mattress relative to an opposite side of the lower mattress. Lower mattress is designed to expand to an expanded state, in which it has a lower firmness, and compression to a compressed state, in which it has a higher firmness. Support layer is configured to overlay at least one movable side of the lower mattress with the formation of at least one compartment under the upper mattress, which is at least partially empty when the lower mattress is in the compressed state and at least partially filled when the lower one mattress in the expanded state.
