FIELD: smoking accessories.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a liquid delivery material that provides sustained release of a liquid upon compression of said material and to a smoking article comprising such a liquid delivery material. Smoking article comprises at least one liquid release component formed from a sustained release liquid delivery material, comprising a closed matrix structure having a polymer matrix defining a plurality of domains, wherein the polymer matrix is formed from one or more anionic polysaccharides cross-linked by multivalent cations; and a filler within the polymer matrix, comprising one or more amphiphilic polysaccharides; and a liquid composition enclosed within said domains and capable of being released from the closed matrix structure during compression of the liquid release component, wherein said one or more amphiphilic filler polysaccharides are selected from the following: starch, chemically modified to impart amphiphilic properties, and starch derivatives chemically modified to impart amphiphilic properties.

EFFECT: technical result of the invention is to provide an improved liquid delivery material for a smoking article that provides an indication to the consumer that the liquid has been released from the material, and exhibits improved stability and improved retention of liquid additives during storage.
