Method comprises determining a first amount of the resource that is used by a first instance of an application by determining an amount of the resource that is used by a foreground process associated with the first instance of the application and background tasks associated with the first instance of the application, calculating and storing a first predicted resource usage amount for the application based on the first resource amount, determining a second amount of the resource to be allocated to a second instance of the application based on the first predicted resource usage amount, wherein the application to be executed by the computing device interacts with the resource manager of the computing device to dynamically monitor how the allocated portion of the resource of the computing device should be divided between the foreground process associated with the application and one or more background processes associated with the application.
