FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for enhancing the melt strength of polypropylene using peroxide. This method for enhancing the melt strength of polypropylene involves heat treatment of above-mentioned polypropylene at a temperature of from 150 to 300 °C in the presence of 0.3–3 wt. %, based on the weight of polypropylene, dialkyl peroxydicarbonate having alkyl groups with 12–20 carbon atoms, where hydrophilic silica with a concentration of silanol groups of at least 1.0 mmol Si-OH-groups/g, as measured by LiAlH4 titration, is added to said polypropylene before, during or after said heat treatment in a mole ratio of Si-OH / dialkyl peroxydicarbonate of more than 0.9 to 8, moreover, the method is carried out in the absence of water and in the absence of hydroxyethyl acrylate and hydroxyethyl methacrylate.

EFFECT: technical result is obtaining polypropylene with high melt strength and low migration of C12-C20 aliphatic alcohol.
