SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in fuel injection systems of internal combustion engines. Methods and systems are proposed for diagnosing errors within the range of pressure sensor 234 located downstream of fuel priming pump 208 in the vehicle fuel system. In one example, the method may provide for controlling the fuel priming pump with feedback on the output of the pressure sensor, monitoring the output signal of the pressure sensor for smoothing during the supply of voltage pulses and regulating the operation of the fuel system depending on whether the output of the pressure sensor is smoothed over at least a threshold time period indicating an error within the range. Method may also provide for the dynamic determination of the set pressure of the valve for unloading the pressure of the fuel system and the vapor pressure of the fuel in the fuel system by monitoring the output signal of the pressure sensor while adjusting the fill factor of the voltage pulses supplied to the fuel pump.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to improve the control accuracy of a fuel pre-pump, even in the case of a faulty fuel pressure sensor located downstream of the fuel pre-pump.
