SUBSTANCE: invention relates to dual-injection control systems of an internal combustion engine. Disclosed is a method of controlling operation of an engine with capabilities of a dual fuel injection system to provide control of pressure in the fuel rail. Method comprises controlling operation of an engine cylinder using distributed injection only, wherein selectively activating and deactivating direct injection injector in response to design minimum weight of injected fuel from direct injection injector. Direct fuel injection is activated until minimum fuel mass injected by direct injection injector reaches lower threshold value exceeding engine IGV limit.
EFFECT: technical result is preventing damage to fuel system equipment.
