FIELD: internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention discloses methods and systems for HC traps in the exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine. Exhaust gas discharge method, in which the burnt exhaust gases are fed into the particulate filter and a hydrocarbon trap in the bypass channel during cold start-up. Particulate filter is located inside the main outlet channel. Hydrocarbon trap is located outside said main outlet channel. Bypass channel has an L-shaped section located in the main outlet channel, and a U-shaped section located outside the main outlet channel. Particulate filter is located in the L-shaped section, at the same time the trap of hydrocarbons is located inside the U-shaped section.
EFFECT: according to one example, the method may include closing the off-take valve to allow passage of exhaust gases from the main outlet channel to the by-pass channel during cold start-up.
