FIELD: construction.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to railroad track repair machinery, in particular to devices for ballast compactors. Tamping assembly comprises a carrier, guides, tamping tools, a tamping drive and a drive to be introduced into a ballast. Carrier of the tamping assembly is attached to the tamping assembly frame by means of guides. Carrier is vertically movable together with the guides. Tamping tools are mounted on the carrier and connected to the drives. Tamping tools are combined to form tamping units. Between tamping blades a compartment is left for engaging around a rail.
EFFECT: simplified design of the tamping assembly is achieved.
