SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a polymer composition, including a crosslinked polymer composition used for insulation of power cables, in particular in high voltage (HV) and extra high voltage (EHV) cables. Composition comprises a polyolefin, peroxide and a sulphur containing antioxidant. Wherein said peroxide is present in an amount which corresponds to X mmol -O-O-/kg polymer composition, and said sulphur containing antioxidant is present in an amount which corresponds to Y mmol -OH/kg polymer composition, wherein 2.0≤Y≤8.0, X≤35 and 0.9Y+3.0≤X≤65-4.7Y. Wherein said polymer composition has a melt flow rate (MFR2) of less than 1.7/10 min. And the polymer composition comprises from 0 to less than 0.03 % by weight 2,4-diphenyl-4-methyl-1-pentene.

EFFECT: according to the invention, the crosslinked polymer composition has a reduced oxidation induction time and at the same time pronounced electrical properties, including reduced, that is, low electrical conductivity, at which undesirable heat generation can be minimized, for example, in the insulating layer of a power cable.
