FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a polymer composition, including a cross-linked polymer composition, as well as to insulation of a power cable and to a power cable suitable for use in power cable DC high-voltage (DC HV) and superhigh-voltage (DC SHV) superconducting direct current applications. Composition comprises a polyolefin, peroxide and a sulphur containing antioxidant. Said peroxide is present in an amount which corresponds to X mmole -O-O-/kg of the polymer composition, and said sulfur-containing antioxidant is present in an amount which corresponds to Y mmol -OH/kg of the polymer composition, where 2.0≤Y≤8.0, X≤35 and 0.9Y+3.0≤X≤65-4.7Y. Said polymer composition has a melt flow index (MFR2) from 1.7 to 2.3 g / 10 min. Besides, the polymer composition contains less than 0.03 wt. % of 2,4-diphenyl-4-methyl-1-pentene and does not contain a crosslinking promoter.
EFFECT: disclosed polymer composition has low electrical conductivity, and exhibits a good balance of mechanical properties.
