FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the production of zirconia-based multi-phasic ceramic composite materials for use in biomedical sector as mechanical components, cutting tools, etc. This method contains the following stages. At least one ceramic suspension is provided by dispersing at least one zirconia powder stabilized with cerium oxide or yttrium oxide in an aqueous medium in order to obtain at least one matrix. At least one aqueous solution containing one or more inorganic precursors — a salt of cerium, yttrium, aluminium, magnesium, strontium, lanthanum and / or manganese is provided and added to the prepared ceramic suspension for surface modification of zirconium dioxide powder and obtaining at least one mixed suspension. It is followed by spray drying the suspension to obtain a mixed powder, heat treating the powder at a temperature of 200–800 °C for 1–20 hours at a heating or cooling rate of 1–20 °C/min, and then at a temperature of 500–1,300 °C to obtain a zirconia powder coated with second phases. Said powder is moulded and sintered.

EFFECT: technical result of the invention is an increase in mechanical strength and service life of products.
