In the method, a speed-based latch release for a vehicle door contains a base, a locking element and an elastic displacing element. Said base is mounted on the door frame. Said base includes a guide surface, an inclined surface located between the portions of the guide surface and an abutment surface located at a distance from the guide surface. Said locking element is connected with the cable for linear and rotary movement relative to the base and contains a pusher. Said elastic displacing element contacts the locking element to rotate the locking element around the cable. Further, the vehicle door contains a door frame, a latch mechanism, a movable handle element, an elongated flexible element and a speed-based latch release.

EFFECT: prevention of unlocking of the door during side impact is achieved.
