SUBSTANCE: invention relates to formation of holographic images, in particular to a holographic display and a method of forming a holographic image by means of a holographic display. Holographic display has a spatial light modulator with electronic control (EASLM), an array of diffraction optical element (DOE) masks, a controller for controlling operation of the holographic display for forming a holographic image.

EFFECT: controller is configured to control EASLM to perform illumination of DOE masks, which must form a set of voxels of a holographic image, by means of their corresponding EASLM pixels, wherein DOE masks are pre-calculated and made.
