FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to inorganic chemistry, specifically to production of compounds with carbon, and can be used to produce powder based on boron carbide in metallurgy, machine building. Device for producing powder based on boron carbide comprises dielectric housing 1, at the bottom of which there is a cylindrical graphite crucible 2, in wall of which opposite to each other there are two through holes, in which one end of graphite cylindrical cathode 3 is coaxially inserted on one side, and one end of graphite cylindrical anode 4 is on the other side. Other end of cathode 3 is rigidly fixed on one wall of housing 1 by means of screw 6 through threaded hole. Second end of anode 4 is fixed in holder 7, end of which is inserted into threaded hole in other wall of housing 1. Anode 4 and cathode 3 are connected to DC source 5.
EFFECT: technical result consists in possibility of obtaining boron carbide based powder in DC arc discharge plasma, initiated in air atmosphere under normal conditions; since graphite deposit in process of DC arc discharge is deposited on cathode surface, collection of synthesized boron carbide powder can be carried out separately from it, wherein initial powder mixture of amorphous carbon and amorphous boron due to arrangement in free-standing crucible has no effect on the value of ohmic resistance of discharge gap.
