FIELD: chemical industry.
SUBSTANCE: application describes a combined method of producing methyl acetate and methanol in carbonylation of dimethyl ether with synthesis gas, extraction of methyl acetate and unreacted synthesis gas, wherein regenerated synthesis gas is used as the only fresh synthetic gas for synthesis of methanol. Combined method of producing methyl acetate and methanol involves the following steps: (I) feeding synthesis gas and dimethyl ether into the carbonylation reaction zone and reacting dimethyl ether and synthesis gas in the presence of a carbonylation catalyst to form a gaseous carbonylation reaction product which includes methyl acetate and hydrogen-enriched synthesis gas, (II) withdrawing the carbonylation reaction product from the carbonylation reaction zone and extracting at least a portion of the carbonylation product of the liquid methyl acetate enriched stream and the synthesis gas stream and (III) feeding at least a portion of the stream of synthesis gas recovered from the carbonylation reaction product into a methanol synthesis reaction zone and contacting said stream with a methanol synthesis catalyst to form a methanol synthesis product comprising methanol and unreacted synthesis gas.
EFFECT: described is a combined method of producing methyl acetate and methanol.
