FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for generation of coherent and incoherent electromagnetic radiation, including in range of terahertz frequencies. Solid-state electromagnetic radiation source has a working layer made of electrically conductive material and located on the surface of the dielectric or semiconductor substrate, which is transparent for the generated radiation, and two electrodes in contact with the working layer. On the substrate in the area between the electrodes there are non-contacting pillars of conductive material different from the material of the working layer. Working layer is applied on the surface of the columns and the surface of the substrate is free from the columns.

EFFECT: technical result consists in enabling possibility of increasing operating efficiency, increasing radiation power, as well as increasing durability and reliability of operation.
