FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medical equipment, namely to surgical stapling and cutting tools and cassettes with staples intended for them, which are made with possibility of stapling and cutting tissue. Disclosed is an individually selected tissue thickness compensator for use with a surgical stapling instrument, wherein the thickness compensator is obtained by a method comprising steps of obtaining a tissue thickness compensator having a first shape with a flat surface; at least a portion of the tissue thickness compensator is converted from the initial state into a glassy state; manipulating at least a portion of the tissue thickness compensator to form a concave surface while maintaining a flat surface on the remaining portion of the tissue thickness compensator; at least a portion of the tissue thickness compensator is transferred from the glassy state to a non-waxy state and at least a portion of the tissue thickness compensator is released.
EFFECT: invention is characterized by manipulating at least a portion of the tissue thickness compensator to form a concave surface while maintaining a flat surface on the remaining portion of the tissue thickness compensator.
