FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: present group of inventions relates to methods and systems (versions) for detecting heat aging and darkening in oxygen sensors. Phenomena of heat aging and darkening can be distinguished by the result of controlling change of impedance in the pumping element and in the Nernst element of the oxygen sensor after supplying alternating voltage. If observing thermal aging and/or darkening in the oxygen sensor, corrective measures can be taken to ensure the reliability of the oxygen content assessment using said sensor.

EFFECT: disclosed is the detection of the oxygen sensor element darkening.
