FIELD: internal combustion engines.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the internal combustion engines. Method of detecting oxygen sensor degradation consists in the fact that when changing the need to supply fuel to engine without changing required engine output at exhaust gas temperature of engine above threshold, the presence of degradation of oxygen sensor in exhaust gases due to release of gas from sealant is indicated. Oxygen sensor is connected to the exhaust system of the engine using a sealant. Readings of the oxygen sensor in the exhaust gases are corrected in response to indication of the presence of degradation. Disclosed is system for detecting degradation of oxygen sensor.

EFFECT: technical result is preventing distortion of oxygen sensor readings.
