FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to machining of materials and can be used in processing articles from aluminum, as well as from high-strength steels and hard-to-machine materials. Milling cutter housing with wear-resistant coating comprises working part with circular outer surface arranged around rotational axis. Along it there are chip removal grooves alternating with ledges in which seats for arrangement and attachment of cutting plates are made. Side surfaces of grooves, ledges and seats have complex spatial shape, fragments of which are located at angles of different value to normal of circular outer surface. Tops of ledges lie on circular surface. A wear-resistant coating containing at least one layer having residual compressing stresses is applied on the surface of at least the working part of the housing. Wear-resistant coating has non-uniform thickness in range of 0.2–5.7 mcm on side surfaces of chip removal grooves, projections and seats in radial direction and on circular outer surface of ledges along working part. Milling cutter is made with the above housing, in the sockets of which the cutting plates are installed.

EFFECT: higher operability and resistance of cutters.
