FIELD: metal cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metal cutting tool, in particular, to cutters and replaceable cutting plates used for milling articles from high-strength steels and hard-to-process materials, as well as for aluminum processing. Cutting tool comprises working part with cutting edges formed at intersection of front and rear surfaces. Wear resistant coating with non-uniform thickness is applied on working part, and at least one layer contains phase with diamond-like amorphous carbon. In each cross-section of the front surface along each cutting edge, the cross-section area of the layer containing the diamond-like amorphous carbon phase per one millimeter of the cutting edge length is in range of 1,300–2,700 mcm2 at content of tetrahedral phase of amorphous carbon in this layer in range of 85–90 % of its composition and its microhardness in range of 80–100 GPa.
EFFECT: higher efficiency and resistance of cutting tool.
