FIELD: machine engineering.
SUBSTANCE: end cutter has a hard alloy working part with a wear-resistant coating consisting of one or more layers arranged around the axis of rotation. The cutting edges of the cutter are alternated with the chamfering grooves. At least one layer contains a phase with one of the elements V, Cr, Nb, Ta, Ti, Zr, Hf, Al, Si and has residual compressive stresses. At a distance of at least two-thirds of the working part from the end of the cutter, the ratio of the length of the surface with the wear-resistant coating along the perimeter of the working part of the cutter in each cross-section by its plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation to the circumference around the cutting edges in this cross section is within 0.8…1.2. The ratio of the lateral surface area of the working part from the end of the cutter with the wear-resistant coating applied to this section to its projection onto the imaginary rotational body, formed with cutting edges relative to the rotation axis is within 0.9…1.4.
EFFECT: structure rigidity increases, vibrations of cutter in operation reduces.
