FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the processing of products made of high-strength steels and hard-to-machine materials. Endmill contains a working part to which a multi-layer wear-resistant coating is applied, containing at least one lower and upper layers. Each layer has residual compressive stresses and includes at least one sublayer containing a phase with one of the elements V, Cr, Nb, Ta, Ti, Zr, Hf, B, Al, Si, bottom layer is made in the form of fragments that do not form a solid shell around the cutter, and deposited on a carbide base along the working part in the form of fragments with the formation of uncovered strips along the front and/or rear surfaces of the cutting wedge. Top layer is applied on top of the bottom layer with the formation of a solid shell around the cutter. Within the bands, the wear-resistant coating contains at least one layer less than in the zone of fragments of the lower layer. Ratio of the surface area of the fragments to the surface area of the upper layer is (0.1...0.9).
EFFECT: working capacity and durability of a mill increases.
