FIELD: materials processing.
SUBSTANCE: inventions group relates to the processing of materials by cutting and can be used in the processing of products from hard-to-cut materials, including titanium and its alloys. The cutting insert contains at least one front surface of a complex shape with elevated and lower sections relative to the supporting surface. The side surface connects the front and support surfaces with the formation of cutting edges, between which a central mounting hole is made. The plate base is made of a hard alloy containing a binder phase in combination of cobalt with at least one of the metals Ir, Pd, Ru, Re, Rh, Os at their content of more than 1.5 wt.% of the binder phase weight. The choice of design parameters of the cutting insert is given. The cutter contains a housing in the form of a body of revolution, in the sockets of which the cutting inserts are fixed.
EFFECT: increased durability of cutting inserts and cutters.
