SUBSTANCE: disclosed is application of the known medicinal agent, sigma-1 receptor agonist of 5-ethoxy-2-[2-(morpholino)-ethylthio]-benzimidazole dihydrochloride (afobazole) as an agent for preventing sudden cardiac death in patients suffering alcoholic cardiomyopathy.

EFFECT: technical result is agonist sigma-1 receptor afobazole in conditions of formed alcoholic cardiomyopathy restores electrical stability of myocardium, increases its compensatory capabilities and contractility - the main independent predictors of sudden cardiac death in the declared conditions, including the abstinence syndrome caused by the termination of prolonged alcohol abuse.
