FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to methods of application of wear resistant coatings on a cutting tool and can be used in metalworking. Vacuum-plasma application of wear-resistant coating of nitride or carbonitride of titanium, chromium, aluminium, silicon and molybdenum at their ratio, wt. %: titanium 43.1, chromium 21.7, aluminium 10.8, silicon 1.4, molybdenum 23.0. Coating is applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane, first of which is made of chromium and alloy of aluminium and silicon, second - from molybdenum and located opposite to first, and third is made of titanium and placed between them.
EFFECT: increased functionality of cutting tool.
