FIELD: transportation.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to operation of underground main pipelines (MP), in part of repair works on elimination of defective areas. According to dispatcher data determining average annual gas temperature for repaired section MP. Process openings are cut out at the section opened and freed from the gas, the repaired section is cut off from possible gas supply to the welding zone by installation of temporary sealing devices (TSD) and a coil with a defect is cut out. At insertion of a new coil in the course of welding lachrymation jobs in a pipeline, maintaining a temperature close to the average annual gas temperature during operation MP, by blowing with air heated with the help of special device.

EFFECT: object of the invention is to develop a method of optimizing temperature stress during repair of a section MP, arising from temperature difference between air temperature during overlaps welding during construction MP and gas temperature during its operation / repair.
