SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing γ,δ-unsaturated alcohol of general formula (II):

where each of R1, R2 and R3 independently denotes a hydrogen atom, an optionally substituted hydroxyl group alkyl group containing 1–10 carbon atoms, optionally substituted with hydroxyl group alkenyl group containing 2–10 carbon atoms, or optionally substituted with a hydroxyl group aryl group containing 6–12 carbon atoms, provided that R1 and R3 can be connected to each other to form a cycle. Method includes step of interaction between α-olefin, represented by following general formula (I):

where R1, R2 and R3 are as defined above, and formaldehyde and step of bringing reaction liquid obtained by reaction, in contact with an alkaline aqueous solution to provide an aqueous solution having pH of 9–13, wherein reaction liquid contact temperature correction with alkaline aqueous solution is 10–90 °C.
EFFECT: disclosed method enables to obtain an end product with improved purity and high output.
