FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to the modification of the surface properties of metals and alloys by concentrated energy flows by processing saturating mixtures with an electron beam, and can be used in mechanical engineering for surface hardening of machine parts and tools. The method for boroalizing carbon steel includes processing the saturating mixture with an accelerated electron beam in a vacuum. A saturating mixture is used containing B4C - 80 wt.% and Al - 20 wt.% and mixed with organic glue in the form of zaponlak. Said mixture is applied to carbon steel in the form of a pasty composition with a thickness of 0.5-1.0 mm. Heated in a vacuum of 10-4-10-3 Pa for 33-55 with a scanning stationary electron beam with a beam focal spot diameter of 1-2 mm, a sweep frequency of 50 Hz, a beam current of 20 mA, an accelerating voltage of 24 kV and a specific power of 5, 7 104 W/cm2.
EFFECT: increase in efficiency, reduction in energy consumption and simplification of the technological process of boron aluminizing with the formation of layers combining the properties of hardness and plasticity.
