FIELD: wireless communication equipment.

SUBSTANCE: radio access network (RAN) node comprises a processor, a memory storing processor-executable instructions for: receiving, from a wireless device, an access request requesting resources for transmitting a paging response message; transmitting, to the wireless device, uplink assignment messages indicating the number of the previously allocated radio units in the packet data traffic channel; and indicating (NTX, UL) of uplink coating (UL) class; receiving, from the wireless device, a response containing the uplink payload; receiving, from main network (CN) node, protocol data unit (PDU), including payload of downlink; decomposing PDU into one or more data units; and transmitting, to a wireless device, one or more repetitions of each of the data units using the allocated downlink (DL) resources.

EFFECT: technical result consists in implementing EC-GSM downlink transmission to wireless devices on the same PDTCH resources, which are used to service legacy wireless devices, while storing the temporary stream identifier field (TFI) at the same position in all headers of the radio block of the downlink, regardless of whether the radio unit sent to a legacy wireless device or an EC-GSM wireless device.
