SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to ophthalmology, and is intended for prediction of clinical effectiveness of timolol primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Method involves taking samples of buccal scrapes, recovering genomic DNA, allele-specific polymerase chain reaction for genotyping by polymorphous locus GSTP1Ilel05Val (rs1695) glutathione-8-transferase-P1 gene GSTP1 patients diagnosed with "primary open-angle glaucoma" of Russian nationality. In genotype carriers GSTP1Ilel05Ile predicting an ophtalmohypotensive response to timolol treatment equal to or greater than 20 %, with 5.63-fold probability, and in genotype carriers GSTP1Ilel05Val ophtalmohypotensive response to timolol therapy of less than 20 % with 9.50-fold probability.

EFFECT: use of the invention enables predicting the clinical effectiveness of timolol POAG and to determine personalized therapeutic approach to patients, promoting maximum therapeutic ophthalmopotensive effect.
