SUBSTANCE: invention discloses a method and a system for controlling heating in an aerosol generating system (100) comprising heater (14). Method includes steps of: measuring parameter (R) characterizing temperature of heater (14), with target value (Rtarget) for this parameter; in case the measured parameter (R) is higher than the target value (Rtarget) for not less than the first value, the power supply to heater (14) is blocked during the first period of time; and if the measured parameter is higher than the target value, but by a value which is less than the first value, supply of power to the heater is blocked during the second period of time shorter than the first period of time.
EFFECT: thus providing fast cooling of heater in case of need.
