SUBSTANCE: embodiments of the present invention relate to methods and systems for monitoring tracking data which facilitate anonymity between a device which provides tracking data and tracking data. Some embodiments relate to removing the relationship between the device identifier and the assigned tracking identifier if no position information is received from the tracking device for a predetermined period of time, for example, between 10 and 20 minutes. Other embodiments relate to periodic extraction of a tracking object from a data store such that a tracking object is stored for a predetermined period of time, for example, 24 hours, and use of position information from tracking objects having the same tracking identifier to create a movement-related trajectory.
