FIELD: physics; chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a reactor and a method of synthesis of urea through direct two-phase reaction of ammonia and carbon dioxide at high temperature and high pressure. Reactor comprises housing extending along axis (A) and having substantially cylindrical main part, closed on opposite axial ends by two end covers, and first and second inlet pipes inserted through housing through holes and connected inside housing with distributors for light phase containing carbon dioxide, and a heavy phase containing ammonia, wherein both through holes are formed in a substantially cylindrical side wall of the body main part above the peripheral edge connecting the main part with the dome-shaped lower part of the body. Distributor for light phase contains one or more tubular elements passing and/or distributed in cross section of reactor and around axis (A) and made with inlet holes located at a distance from each other, for distribution of light phase in a plurality of inlet points, distributed in a transverse direction in a reactor and around axis (A). Distributor for heavy phase contains, in fact, L-shaped tubular body, having, in fact, vertical tubular part, bent downwards and towards lower part of housing and containing multiple lateral through holes.
EFFECT: invention provides better distribution of carbon dioxide across the reactor cross-section and high overall efficiency of the urea synthesis process.
