FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to plasma accelerators, particularly, to devices, in which plasma is accelerated under action of field of ponderomotive forces generated in crossed electromagnetic fields created in working volume of device. Such devices are used as space engines and in plasma technologies. Plasma booster comprises current pulse generator, plasma source and spiral electrode with height hs, the first lead of which is connected to the current pulse generator, and the second one is grounded. Accelerator additionally includes first magnetic core in the form of cylinder with height h1 and radius R1, located coaxially inside spiral electrode with radius Rs, permanent magnet in form of hollow cylinder with height h4, with inner radius R2 and outer radius R3, magnetized along height and located coaxially to spiral electrode, second magnetic conductor in form of hollow cylinder with inner radius R2 and with outer radius R3, contacting with right end face of permanent magnet and coaxially embracing spiral electrode, third magnetic conductor in form of disc with radius R3 and height h3, which contacts its right surface with left ends of permanent magnet and first magnetic conductor, third magnetic conductor has a dielectric input for connecting the first lead of the spiral electrode to the current pulse generator, and said dimensions satisfy the corresponding ratios. Technical result is increase in final speed of generated plasma streams and increase in energy efficiency of plasma accelerator.
EFFECT: as a result, the disclosed device enables generation of neutrons in collision of accelerated deuterium-containing plasma with solid targets containing heavy hydrogen isotopes.
