FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical measuring equipment. In order to reduce the duration and labour intensity of the route works when determining the technical state of the insulating coating of the pipeline, the method of measuring resistance of an insulating coating of a pipeline, based on measurement of the polarization potential of the pipeline, insulation resistance is measured by switching off the cathode protection station by connecting the first discharge resistance (R1) to two inputs of the measurement device), and after a predetermined pipeline (t) discharge time, the measured polarization potential (U1). Then, the first discharge resistance is disconnected from the measuring device inputs and cathodic protection stations are switched on; after restoration of initial value of polarization potential (U0) cathodic protection stations are again disconnected and connected to inputs of the measurement device second discharge resistance (R2), then through the specified time of the pipeline (t) discharge the measured potential (U2) and determining resistance of insulating coating of pipeline by formula:

where U0 is the initial polarization potential.
EFFECT: invention can be used for assessment of resistance of insulating coating of underground pipelines during their electrometric survey.
