SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hydraulic engineering and can be used for protection of soil dams from destruction as a result of bacterial gas formation (methanogenesis). Method of protection of dams from destruction as a result of bacterial gas formation (methanogenesis) involves treatment of soil material with chemical reagent. Reagent inhibitor of methanogenesis inhibition is iron (III) chloride in an amount required to achieve in the water of the dam body concentration of iron 4–6 mg/dm3.

EFFECT: simplification of process of protection of soil dams from destruction as a result of bacterial gas formation (methanogenesis) and absence of influence of process use on environment.
