SUBSTANCE: invention relates to automated control of ammunition. Diagnostic system for monitoring the state of protective coating of artillery ammunition consists of a device with antennae, receiving vibrators, a control device, an amplifier, a device for generating microwave energy, a matching device for time, a measurement step, an electromagnetic wave excitation device, device of input, output of parameters, internal diagnostics, a personal computer with software. Software makes it possible to display a section with a defect of paint coating on a drawing of ammunition. Microwave range generator is configured to generate an electromagnetic field of a surface slow wave directed along the protective lacquer coating on the ammunition in two directions X and Z, the receiving vibrators are configured to move at a predetermined pitch.

EFFECT: enabling determination of the location and total area of the paint coat defect.
