FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to two versions of a method of producing dimethyl ether from methanol. Both the first and second versions of the method include dehydration of methanol in the vapor phase on a thermostable composite catalyst of composition M0.5Zr2(PO4)3 in a tubular reactor, which is placed in amount of 0.3 grams in a mixture with pure quartz sand between two sections of pure quartz sand, activating catalyst at 350 °C in argon and hydrogen flow for 3 hours, wherein methanol vapor cooled to 2 °C is introduced into reactor by current of argon and dehydration is carried out at 200–400 °C. In the first version of the method, the catalyst used is a catalyst of composition Ni0.5Zr2(PO4)3 or Cu0.5Zr2(PO4)3, and in second version catalyst composition of Ni0.65Fe0.3Zr1.7(PO4)3 or Cu0.65Fe0.3Zr1.7(PO4)3.

EFFECT: proposed versions of the method enable to obtain dimethyl ether with high output with degree of conversion of methanol and selectivity to dimethyl ether, comparable with those of industrial analogues.
