FIELD: measurement.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and to a measuring system for measuring displacement of side guide (200) of a transport section of an installation for casting by casting or rolling in a metallurgical plant. System comprises at least one light source (110) emitting parallel beams (130) of light, and receiving device (120) with a touch panel for receiving light beams. Computing device serves to analyse light beams received by the touch panel. To enable easier and faster data analysis, the receiving device is configured to generate an image of the touch panel with sensor panel sensor positions, which correspond to light rays, which were not affected by the object, and to positions of touch panel sensors corresponding to emitted light beams, which were influenced by the input object.
EFFECT: computing device is configured to analyse an image with respect to the depth of penetration of an object in a region of space enclosed by light beams, speed and/or contour of the object.
