SUBSTANCE: invention relates to biochemistry. Described is a group of inventions comprising a human cytomegalovirus (CMV) promoter which has a nucleotide position of -41 and/or -179 relative to a transcription initiation site, nucleotide G, a method of producing a semi-peptide and use of said promoter to produce a polypeptide. In one embodiments of the invention, the method includes the steps of: transfection of a eukaryotic cell with a nucleic acid comprising an expression cassette containing the above promoter sequence, operably linked to a second nucleic acid encoding a polypeptide, selecting a cell, culturing the cell, recovering the polypeptide from the cell or culture medium.

EFFECT: invention extends the range of human cytomegalovirus promoters.
