FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of biotechnology. Disclosed is a method of producing biomass of methane-oxidizing bacteria Methylococcus capsulatus. Method involves cultivation of said bacteria under aeration conditions in a fermenter on a methane-containing nutrient medium as a carbon source. When growing, biomass is recirculated through a recirculation loop from a portion of the fermenter with a minimum oxygen content, which is a deaeration zone, to a portion of the fermenter with maximum content of dissolved oxygen, which is a zone of aeration and supply of liquid phase, with pumping rate of 1/50–1/70 working volume of fermenter per minute. At that, methane is fed into liquid phase recirculation circuit while air is fed into aeration zone.
EFFECT: invention provides high output of biomass, reduced losses and achieving complete explosion safety of the process.
