FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and can be used for modification of cast iron with plate, vermicular or globular graphite. Modifier contains an alloy of ferrosilicon in form of particles containing 40–80 wt% of silicon, 0.5–5 wt% of calcium and/or strontium and/or barium, 0–10 wt% of rare-earth elements, for example, cerium and/or lanthanum, 0–5 wt% magnesium, less than 5 wt% aluminum, 0–10 wt% manganese and/or zirconium and an iron residue, wherein the modifier further contains 0.1–10 wt% of particles of bismuth oxide and optionally 0.1–10 wt% of one or more metal sulphides in form of particles and/or one or more iron oxides in form of particles, wherein said particles of bismuth oxide are mixed or completely mixed with particles of ferrosilicon or added to cast iron simultaneously with particles of ferrosilicon.
EFFECT: invention enables to increase the number of nuclei or numerical density of spherical discharge in cast iron with addition of said modifier containing bismuth oxide.
