FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a modifier for producing cast iron with spherical graphite. Modifier contains a ferrosilicon alloy in the form of particles, consisting of, wt.%: 40 to 80 Si; 0.02 to 8 Ca; 0 to 5 Sr; 0 to 12 Ba; 0 to 15 rare earth metal; 0 to 5 Mg; 0.05 to 5 Al; 0 to 10 Mn; 0 to 10 Ti; 0 to 10 Zr; the rest being Fe and random impurities in a usual amount, wherein the alloy additionally contains, as calculated for the total mass of the modifier, wt.%: 0.1 to 15 rare earth metal oxides in the form of particles and at least one from 0.1 to 15 Bi₂O₃ in the form of particles, and/or 0.1 to 15 Bi₂S₃ in the form of particles, and/or 0.1 to 15 Sb₂O₃ in the form of particles, and/or 0.1 to 15 Sb₂S₃ in the form of particles, and/or 0.1 to 5 of one or more from Fe₃O₄, Fe₂O₃, FeO in the form of particles or a mixture thereof, and/or 0.1 to 5 of one or more from FeS, FeS₂, Fe₃S₄ in the form of particles or a mixture thereof.

EFFECT: invention provides a modifier preventing the formation of carbides by introducing nucleation centres for graphite, and provides a possibility of adding the modifier to a cast iron melt before casting, during intramould modification, or simultaneously with casting.
