SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 5-hydroxy-6-methyluracil, which can be used in pharmaceutical industry. Disclosed method of producing 5-hydroxy-6-methyluracil involves oxidation of 6-methyluracil with ammonium persulphate in alkaline medium at 40–70 °C and hydrogen peroxide, followed by cooling of reaction mixture, crystallization of intermediate product – 6-methyluracil-5-ammonium sulphate, and hydrolysis of latter with sulfuric acid at 80–85 °C.
EFFECT: novel efficient method of producing 5-hydroxy-6-methyluracil with improved output.
