FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical engineering and can be used for production of nano-sized powders based on yttrium oxide for production of optical ceramics. Method of producing yttrium oxide for ceramic articles involves hydrolysis of yttrium sulphate using a sodium hydroxide or an aqueous ammonia solution as a hydrolytic agent with uniform introduction thereof for 1 hour until reaching final pH values of 8–10. Then, obtained gel is centrifuged at rate of 10,000 rpm and vacuum drying at temperature of 60 °C.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain nanostructured yttrium oxide with high specific surface area and narrow size distribution of nanoparticles.
